What the Installer Does
This article describes what files and Registry entries are created on your computer when you install a Lucion product. Applies to: FileCenter, FileConvert, FilePDF.
Lucion software is designed to be very self-contained and to have a minimal impact on your system. All program files are placed in Program Files, usually in this folder:
c:\program files\filecenter
All of the executables, libraries, and drivers are found here.
"FileCenter PDF" is added as a printer. It may or may not be active, depending on your license.
All settings for all programs are stored as files in a unified settings folder. You can see this folder from your program's "Help" menu > "Support Options" (or just "Support") > "Browse Settings".
The software avoids the Registry as much as possible. However, it may be necessary to create Registry entries in any of these locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FileCenter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\FileAgent
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\FileConvertAgent
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\FileAgent
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\FileConvertAgent
FileAgent is installed by each program and will start up automatically when you log on. It is a small, lightweight application that handles back-end tasks as needed, like the PDF printer, indexing, and FileCenter's Save/Open integration.
The FileConvertAgent is only installed by FileConvert. It starts up automatically when you log on. This agent triggers scheduled conversion jobs as needed.
WORDPEFECT USERS: If you are installing FileCenter, any installations of WordPerfect will have their "Use enhanced file dialogs" setting toggled off. This is for compatibility with the FileCenter Save/Open dialogs. To turn this back on, in WordPerfect go to "Tools" (or possibly "Edit") > "Settings" > "Files", and in the "Files" tab, check "Use enhanced file dialogs".
